School System Consolidation

See this Winston-Salem Journal article…lawmakers in Raleigh think counties with two or more school systems need to have them merged to save money. Of course, Charlotte-Mecklenburg is taking steps to un-consolidate by creating new mini-districts within its system. Consolidation is not always a good thing…take Guilford County, for example, where three merged systems ended up leaving the issue of future growth not being discussed and schools not being built? The results are what we’re dealing with now, especially in High Point.

  1. Lawmakers in Raleigh need to visit Guilford county schools. Are these lawmakers on drugs? Huge systems are a recipe for failure and they have one of the biggest failures right here in Guilford to see up close and personal.

I wish Terry Grier would admit that it’s too big even for his innovative britches. Everyone loses: the students, the taxpayers, the cummunity. Very few winners come out of Guilford County, and when they do, it’s not because of the education they received, it’s in spite of it.

  2. You’re absolutely right…the problem is they have no clue what’s going on in these schools and classrooms. They’re out of touch, and this is the result when you have out of touch lawmakers running the show instead of the teachers and administrators.
