Davidson Merger up in Air: HP Enterprise

Davidson County officials are attempting to bring together all of its schools under one roof through a merger, which would include Davidson County, Lexington City and Thomasville City Schools. A bill is pending in the state Senate to do just that. See today’s HP Enterprise for more.

An excerpt:

A legislative bill that, if passed, would unite all public schools in Davidson County already has several administrators scrambling to formulate suitable plans.
According to N.C. Senate Bill S120 – introduced to the General Assembly by Sens. Tony Rand, D-Bladen, Cumberland, and William R. Purcell, D-Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Stanly – the State Board of Education would only distribute funding to one local school administration per county. In Davidson County, that would mean a school system that would include Thomasville City Schools, Lexington City Schools and Davidson County Schools under one umbrella.
“This bill would help to affect a tremendous budget savings for the state,” Rand said.
He estimated between $11 and $15 million would be saved each year by scaling down multiple school systems in counties throughout North Carolina.
The bill currently is in Senate committee.

E.C. 🙂
