Notable Quote from One Guilford

…this from today’s News & Record on yesterday’s One Guilford Symposium at High Point University:

Meanwhile, new leaders are hard to find. Potential young leaders are repelled by the current state of local government, said Al Barnett Jr., a panelist and financial adviser with Scott & Stringfellow.

He said he spoke with a friend recently who “watched about 15 minutes of the county commissioners and it makes her head hurt.

“We know how to pander, pontificate and posture for what we want. Young professionals pick up on that. This is a very small community” and word gets around, Stringfellow said.

And an unchanging group of community leaders can stifle fresh ideas, panelists said at the event that was hosted by High Point University and sponsored by the News & Record.

That’s why I’m running for School Board. Our Board’s lack of fresh ideas has helped to stifle public education and has partly resulted in the pitiful EOC scores that were released yesterday. It is time for new leadership all the way around and my candidacy represents this new brand of reform-style leadership.

E.C. 🙂
