Where oh where have they gone?

Where oh where have the little children gone, oh where oh where could they be?

Attendance rolls are down just about statewide, and that has perplexed many of our local superintendents from the hills to the water.

GCS rolls show 71,418 students as of the 20th-day census, about 900 fewer than expected, according to the News & Record from a few days ago (click here to read about it).  Wake, Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Forsyth Counties also are experiencing decreases in projected enrollment.

So they’re all scratching their heads. Any thoughts on this?

  1. Private schools, home schools.

  2. obviously, and it seems to be that parents did not exactly tell the school systems either.
