Abel Owens [pictured], 17, of 3824 Yanceyville St. is accused of attacking teacher Jelani Thomas on Monday, according to arrest warrants filed at the Guilford County Magistrate’s office.

Warrants state Owens punched and choked Thomas while he was attempting to maintain order in the classroom.

Owens was charged with one count of assault on a school employee.

He is being held at the Guilford County jail in Greensboro on a $1,000 bond.

Thomas, an art teacher at the school, declined comment about the incident when reached by phone Monday evening, other than to say he only received a few scrapes.
