San Diego Watch: What they have versus what we do not have

The image “” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. If our fearless leader Terry Grier packs up and heads west to greener pastures, it seems as though he will have his hands full when he gets there.

It appears that San Diego Unified has a few things that Guilford County Schools COULD use…such as a “Whistleblower Hotline” and an Ethics Office. An in-house “inspector general” may not be a bad idea either.

And San Diego has similar spending problems…such as $3 million in misspent federal dollars, along with an unnamed investigation over $10 million in National Science Foundation grant monies.

This from the Voice of San Click here for story one. Click here for the sidebar.

An excerpt:

San Diego Unified may have to repay more than $3 million to federal programs, if the federal Department of Education follows the advice of its Inspector General, which concluded that the district misspent funds on a one-time retirement program, and recommended that the money be repaid.

But that payment could be dwarfed by an even larger liability now hovering over the schools. Federal inspectors from the Department of Education are also investigating a roughly $10 million grant from the National Science Foundation, distributed to San Diego public schools between 1996 and 2002, according to a recent audit by Vicenti, Lloyd and Stutzman LLP, commissioned by the district.

Nothing new on Grier’s possible move…I’ll keep you posted.

  1. EC. Dear Lord stop telling him what is bad about the place and start telling him what is good! Then maybe with a bit of luck the answer to the question above will be: Terry Grier. BB
