Tuesday, January 22, 2008 8:34 AM

Due to unforeseen changes with the weather that have negatively impacted road conditions, buses have been instructed to hold at a safe location until further notice. Buses will be released as soon as temperatures rise and road conditions improve – no later than 10 a.m., sooner if possible. Buses will run their engines to maintain heat while being held.

Schools are not delayed.

District high schools that are on a block schedule will begin end-of-course exams on Tuesday, January 22.  Exams will continue through Monday, January 28.

  1. I pulled out of my neighborhood 5 min. ahead of schedule to take my kid to school today and turned around when the rain fell and the road become instantly icy. The school system blew the call on this one with it’s “Due to unforeseen changes with the weather “, all they had to do was watch the local news station last night and look at the radar/temperature this morning.

And here’s a good one for you. My kid tells me Western gets out at 1:00pm today, yet there’s no info on the Western website or the GCS website. Hows that for communication?

  2. As of 9:05 am kids on AIM and Yahoo reporting from school that there very few students there. Hopefully those who drive to school had enough sense not to get out in this mess.

Other kids are calling from stuck school buses.

EOC were canceled for the day, yet Western still gets out at 1:00? Kids who get their by 10:30-11:00 and have first lunch will immediately eat, then go home two hours later.

  3. their = there

  4. What a mess…once again, someone downtown drops the ball. Have to get those EOCs in!

  5. “Due to unforseen changes in the weather forecast…”

The GCS system just lies for the sheer joy of lying.

These “unforseen changes” were predicted on every weather outlet, from NOAA on down, as early as Sunday evening.

Terry Grier actually said that according to their weather reports there was only an 18-30 percent chance of precip. Have you ever in your life seen a weather forecast with an “18 percent” chance of anything?

Both News 2 and Fox 8, to their credit, refuted Grier’s Bizzaro World forecast. Fox 8’s Van Denton predicted a 60 percent chance of freezing drizzle/rain, and News 2 actually rebroadcast Eric Chilton’s forecast from Monday’s 11pm newscast.

Hey, anyone can make a bad call. What is infuriating is that Grier refuses to take responsibility for it and then tries to lie his way out of it. And he wonders why this county hates his guts.

By the way, the News & Record editorial on Grier was execreble.

  6. My personal fave was when I had to drive a million mile to get my child to school the NEXT DAY when it was 40 sum degrees in the early morning and the sun was shining only to discover a 2 hour delay, not even a dot of rain and there had been no ice since the day before lol…
