Today’s High Point Enterprise gives us an update on where GCS is on the installation of cameras on school buses. It appears to be moving right along with 82 of them installed already.

HPE Excerpt:

The school system wants to cut down on unruly bus riders with the installation of security cameras on school buses.
Guilford County Schools has installed 82 digital video monitoring systems on buses across the district that have the highest volume of student discipline referrals.
Jeff Harris, director of transportation, said the cameras have been up and running since January and administrators already are seeing results.
“So far, I think just having the presence of the cameras (on buses) has helped curb discipline problems,” Harris said.
School personnel are able to rely on the cameras to monitor student behavior, allowing them to download video from the system’s computer hard drive to a workstation or laptop computer for later viewing. In most cases, bus drivers will use the video to verify information they submit on referral forms when an incident occurs.
