More from the N&R:

GREENSBORO — Guilford schools received a $919,762 federal grant to create and strengthen American history programs.

The district expects 90 teachers for the fifth, eighth and 10th grades to participate over the course of the three-year project. Local professors and museum curators will provide training during the school year.

During the summer, teachers will attend workshops hosted by Colonial Williamsburg, National Constitution Center and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. The goals of the project are to increase teacher content knowledge and develop teacher leaders.

The district is also partnering with University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Guilford College, North Carolina A&T State University, High Point University, Friends Historical Collection at Guilford College, Tannenbaum Historic Park, High Point Museum and Greensboro History Museum.
