A reform candidate who lost an attempt for the 2008 Guilford County Board of Education’s at-large seat, Erik “E.C.” Huey, age 36, is the editor of Guilford School Watch. He lives in north Jamestown/Adams Farm with his wife and seven-year-old daughter, who’s a second grader in a Guilford County public school.

Originally from Chicago, Mr. Huey has been a classroom teacher and substitute teacher in both Guilford and Randolph Counties for the past three years. Mr. Huey is also a former journalist, who received a B.A. in media communications from Governors State University in 1997. He spent seven years in journalism and public relations with companies in Washington, D.C., Las Vegas and right here in Greensboro. Huey is a former reporter with the High Point Enterprise and the former Triad Business News.

Huey is an active member of Vickrey United Methodist Church and works with the church’s Full Basket Ministry, which interacts with High Point’s Open Door Ministry and the Rabbit Quarter Ministries in outreach services to High Point’s homeless community.

Huey was also an active member of the former Greensboro Young Professionals prior to its acquisition by Action Greensboro.
