Wake County School Board is having elections tomorrow

The image “https://i0.wp.com/farm2.static.flickr.com/1285/1387933280_a703a2a1ff_t.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. This is Sean O’Brien. He is a candidate for the Wake County School Board (and their primary is tomorrow).

According to “Wake-Ed” (the education blog for the Raleigh News & Observer), O’Brien has released a campaign flier targeting individual student performance (click here) instead of current EOGs/EOCs targeting school performance.

Read his blog here. He says:

There really is a sea-shift going on in how we measure school success.  Every amendment to No Child Left Behind currently pending before Congress calls for a switch to the student growth model.

I am excited about what this means for innovation in education over the next 10 years.  We will begin to get results about the effectiveness of educational programs, calendars, teachers, schools and even staff development.  A new age is beginning in education.

O’Brien’s talking my language. I wish him well tomorrow.

  2. I’m new on this site but have been teaching for 4 years.
I have a year 5/6 class in Rome. Challenging kids, 100% non-English speaking background, lots of fights, little interest in learning and I love every minute!

I do enjoy reading about different school systems and teaching practises and condition and have found a lot of great ideas on this site previously.
